make the best of it

make the best of it (idiom): do what you can under the circumstances; to do as well as possible with something that is not too promising. Also, make the best of a bad bargain.

- We've had to make the best of it ever since grandma died last month.
- The room they've given us is too small really, but we'll just have to make the best of it.
- It was a difficult speech to give, but I think she made the best of a bad job.
